Personalized orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapy as well as Nutrition Counseling and Pilates.

Refine Physical Therapy and Wellness was born in response to seeing a need for individualized, one-on-one physical therapy treatment. I take a holistic approach to patient care. Patient treatment, with Refine PT, involves assessing each individual’s mobility throughout all body regions; lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress, and nutrition; and relating these components to current pain or movement limitation.

I’m Dr. Nicole Lorenz.

I graduated from Wayne State University with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012. My career started with a passion for treating orthopedic and athletic injuries. As an avid runner and triathlete, it has been my passion to help others improve their mobility in order to achieve their health and fitness goals. During my graduate education I was introduced to Pilates and its complementary nature to physical therapy. I pursued training in Pilates and am a STOTT certified instructor.

My interest and clinical practice in women’s health, and pelvic floor physical therapy developed over the course of my own pregnancies. Even as a medical practitioner, I found it difficult to find information related to safely incorporating fitness and athletic activities during pregnancy. This lead me to advanced training in the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction.

My treatment approach utilizes a combination of manual/hands-on therapy, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (ie: Graston technique), and strengthening/movement retraining to address each individual’s pain and mobility restrictions.

Hi, I am Emily Soto. I graduated from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2009. I moved around the country in the years after graduation, and am happy to be back in my home state with my husband and two children. I was drawn to the field after sustaining an injury while playing volleyball which led to me needing physical therapy. From that experience, I saw how therapy helped people across the lifespan maintain an active lifestyle. I also appreciated the longer connection with patients as compared to a physician who only has 5-10 minutes.

Most of my career experience has been in outpatient orthopedic-based clinics, but because I was often in rural areas, I was lucky to work with a variety of conditions including neurologic and pediatrics. In 2018, I shifted my focus to treating the pelvic floor. When I first started the advanced training, it lit a fire in me. Pelvic floor dysfunction is often overlooked or dismissed. I became even more passionate about it after having my kids. Pelvic floor therapy requires a consideration of more than just the pelvic floor - it warrants a holistic approach.

Treatment techniques I utilize are manual/hands on therapy, individualized mobility and strengthening/stabilization exercises, and patient education (if you know more you will understand why we work on the things we do, and have tools to utilize in your daily life). I am so happy to connect with you and work with you toward your better health and function.
